Declan Carroll’s charge was cut a full 30 points from 50/1 into 20’s for the Newmarket showpiece following his victory and never really look in trouble suggesting there is more to come from him yet. The win has capped some good performances in some tough looking handicaps and although the ‘Ces’ will be a step up in class for him it is clear the handicapper is yet to completely figure him out yet. The four-year-old will pick up a penalty for this win but that should also guarantee him a place in the line-up.
Marcus Tregoning’s stayer Askar Tau is favourite for the race and continues to attract interest from punters. The top handicap racer is unbeaten in five starts now and is very well treated in the weights. Course and distance won’t be a problem for the horse who seems a worthy favourite.
Chaser Top The Charts is another that is seeing some money at this early stage. Its over a year since the Seamus Carroll owned gelding won a race, that over the hurdles, but recent form suggests that he may be running into some sort of form to at least challenge for a place.
Finally we must look at second fav Mamlook. David Pipes charge is already winning over the hurdles and looks in good fettle to make a decent fist of things here.
